Transparent Brewing Company

Transparent Brewing Company is a microbrewery located in Grandview, MO. We are focused on being open and transparent with our customers and aim to create the highest quality product.

With an emphasis on lower ABV beers, the majority of the taps you will taste will be under 7% ABV. We aim to have an open and honest environment with the goal of you learning something new every time that you come to visit us. Drop-in and enjoy a delicious pint, some tasty food, and conversation with one of our bartenders.

The Chive Cafe/Market

The Chive, Simply Good Café/Market is farm-to-table and as much locally sourced as possible. The menu is fresh, made from scratch, vegetable forward, and changes often based on what is coming from our local farmers.

We offer stay awhile, indoor seating with counter service in the dining area. For those in a hurry, we have a convenient take-out market featuring our recipes in a to-go format and other local made, natural products. We are a community invested business, health conscious, and sustainably focused. It is “simply good” food with simply good beer.

About Us

Transparent Brewing Company’s roots date back to 2014 when Lead Brewer/Owner Nolan Brown decided to forego medical school to pursue his newly found love of craft beer. After beginning to brew in college at Missouri State, Nolan realized that he loved the creativity and joy that it brought to his life. Over the next 6 years, Nolan pursued a career in the craft beer industry working at breweries of all sizes, all the while developing his own recipes and style.

Transparent Brewing Company was created in 2017 when the opportunity to open a KC location arose. Nolan quickly moved back home to the Kansas City area to pursue this opportunity. Over the next three years, the idea of Transparent Brewing Company slowly came into focus. In 2020 the doors were finally open and the taps are still flowing today.

Michelle Brown, owner/chef, envisioned The Chive, Simply Good Cafe/Market as she pursued culinary training at JCCC as a second career. She has a passion for growing sustainable food and cooking scratch recipes with ingredients just picked from her own farm. She felt this commitment to local was missing in the KC food scene. The Chive is proud to be 75-95% local all year long.

Nolan and Michelle combined their dreams in 2017, developed a plan, built our current cool space, and opened in August 2020.

With great determination and perseverance, Nolan and Michelle forged through 18 months of unpredictability. But through it all, a fabulous group of customers have become our friends and have given us a reason to continue on.

Nolan is now expanding to distribution and Michelle is growing her weekly subscription box program and market and baking program. Monthly beer and food specials and events keep customers coming back. We look forward to 4 stages of expansion in the future adding a full kitchen, expanded market, expanded brewery, event space, wood fired oven, expanded indoor seating, expanded patio space and more.

Welcome to Our Place

Great beer and great food are the cornerstones of our operation. Our space features a long beautiful wood bar top, reclaimed wood tables, local art on the walls, natural light, board games, and live music. It’s a great place to hang out, meet new people, catch up with old friends, and make memories.

Spend Time Outside

Our outdoor facilities are open year round. Our patio is dog friendly and we offer a dog park, bocce ball courts, and cornhole. Enjoy food and beer while using our outdoor facilities. In addition, our space offers native landscaping, biking and hiking trails nearby, and easy access to Southern Jackson County.
